What will you learn?
ANSYS is a big package. It's got a lot of applications and is useful for different kinds of engineers. ANSYS is a simulation package, and so is good for simulating a lot of mechanical phenomena. Civil, automotive, aerospace. Basically, wherever one needs to design something, and validate that design for the real world, inexpensively. The specific product of ANSYS that deals with CFD, is a CFD-FEM code in itself. But when you solve using FLUENT, you don't really care about how it is being done. Sure, it puts into you the idea of discretization, and finite elements representing the domain, and the idea of specifying an initial condition and boundary conditions, and so on. But trust me on this, when it comes to actually learning these topics, FEM and CFD reveal more to you than what meets the eye when solving in FLUENT. It would actually be more helpful if you were clear with the fundamentals of fluid mechanics instead. Still, it doesn't hurt to learn about ANSYS. It’s a pretty important tool for design engineers today.
Prerequisites
Before learning anything, you should have some idea about that thing. As you want to learn Ansys, you must know what are the capabilities and limitations of software.
Any PLM software like Ansys, Nx will require same pre-requisite knowledge which includes:
Finite Element Method: As ansys is mainly depend upon this. You can find out many books on this. Fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis.
Problem: Analysis of problem which you are going to solve is at utmost priority. This software works on GIGO principle. If you are working on Structural problem, you must have prior knowledge of Structural engineering, Mechanics, Vibration, etc. If you are working on heat transfer, you must have knowledge about heat and mass transfer. If your problem is regarding fluids, then you have to learn Fluid mechanics before that.
Output: You must be aware of what will be the output of a solution and what I want to get out of this. Try to solve simple problems analytically as well as by simulation so as to get confidence.
